ELITE SMILES DENTAL CLINIC
Dentist Near Tellico Village TN
Quick Answer:
For patients looking for a dentist near Tellico Village TN, Elite Smiles provides preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dental care from our Knoxville office. We help patients protect natural teeth, maintain crowns and fillings, monitor gum health, and address changes such as sensitivity, wear, dry mouth, and damaged teeth.
Long-term dental care often becomes less about fixing isolated problems and more about protecting the work you already have. Crowns, fillings, bridges, implants, and other restorations can serve you well for many years, but they still require routine evaluation. Natural teeth can also change over time as enamel wears, gums recede, bite forces shift, or medications affect saliva production.
For patients looking for a dentist near Tellico Village TN, Elite Smiles provides comprehensive dental care from our Knoxville office with a strong focus on maintaining healthy teeth, monitoring existing dental work, and addressing changes before they lead to larger problems.
Keeping Natural Teeth Healthy Takes Ongoing Attention
A tooth can look healthy and still develop problems that are difficult to see at home. Decay may form around the edge of an older filling. A small crack can develop beneath a restoration. Gum recession can expose part of the tooth root and increase sensitivity. Years of grinding or clenching may gradually wear down enamel. These changes don’t always cause immediate pain.
Routine dental exams give your dentist the opportunity to evaluate the condition of each tooth and compare current findings with previous visits. That history helps determine whether an area remains stable or has started to change.
Preserving natural teeth often depends on recognizing those changes early enough to respond conservatively.
Existing Dental Work Still Needs to Be Checked
Dental restorations don’t have an expiration date, but they do experience daily wear.
A crown that has functioned well for years may eventually develop a small gap along its edge. A large filling may remain intact while the natural tooth surrounding it begins to fracture. Bridges and other restorations can become harder to clean if gum contours change. None of this means older dental work automatically needs replacement.
Dentists should evaluate restorations based on their current condition, the health of the supporting tooth, and whether they continue to function properly. If everything remains stable, monitoring may be all that’s necessary.
When a restoration begins to fail, addressing it before the tooth suffers additional damage can give your dentist more options for preserving it.
Gum Health Can Change Even When Your Teeth Feel Fine
Healthy gums help support every tooth in your mouth. Inflammation often begins quietly. You may notice occasional bleeding while brushing or flossing, but significant pain may never develop.
As periodontal disease progresses, it can damage the bone and connective tissues that hold teeth in place. That makes routine periodontal evaluation an important part of long-term dental care.
Professional cleanings remove hardened tartar that home brushing cannot eliminate. Your dentist and hygienist can also monitor changes in gum depth, recession, bleeding, and bone support.
Dry Mouth Deserves More Attention Than Most People Give It
Saliva plays a major role in protecting teeth. It helps wash away food particles, neutralize acids, and control bacteria. When saliva production decreases, the risk of cavities and irritation can increase.
Many factors can contribute to dry mouth, including certain medications, dehydration, and medical conditions.
Patients sometimes assume a dry mouth is simply an annoyance. From a dental standpoint, persistent dryness can change the environment inside the mouth and increase the need for preventive care.
If you regularly experience dry mouth, mention it during your dental visit. Your dentist can look for changes in the teeth and gums and recommend strategies to reduce risk
When Does a Tooth Need More Than a Filling?
The amount of healthy tooth structure that remains often determines the answer. A small cavity may respond well to a filling because plenty of strong enamel still surrounds the damaged area.
If decay, fractures, or a large existing restoration has weakened more of the tooth, another filling may not provide enough support. A crown can surround the remaining structure and help distribute chewing pressure more evenly.
If infection reaches the inside of the tooth, root canal treatment may allow the dentist to preserve it rather than remove it.
Good restorative dentistry starts with the same question each time: What treatment gives this tooth the best chance to remain healthy and functional?
A Changing Bite Can Affect More Than Comfort
Your bite changes gradually over time. Tooth wear, missing teeth, new restorations, grinding, and shifting teeth can all alter how pressure travels through your mouth. Sometimes the first sign is a tooth that suddenly feels tender when chewing. Other patients notice worn edges or small chips.
Dentists can look at where the teeth contact and whether certain areas are carrying excessive force. Catching these patterns early may help protect both natural teeth and existing restorations from unnecessary stress.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have older crowns and fillings checked?
Your dentist should evaluate them during routine dental exams. You don’t need to replace restorations simply because they are old, but regular monitoring can identify wear, decay, cracks, or changes around their edges.
Can gum recession cause tooth sensitivity?
Yes. Recession can expose the root surface of a tooth, which does not have the same protective enamel covering as the crown of the tooth. That exposed area may react to cold, sweets, or brushing.
Does dry mouth increase cavity risk?
It can. Saliva helps protect teeth from acids and bacteria, so persistent dry mouth may make cavities more likely.
Can a cracked tooth still be saved?
Often, yes. Treatment depends on the location and extent of the crack. Early evaluation improves the chances of preserving the tooth before the fracture spreads.

I cannot say thank you enough to Dr. Block and his staff. I had to have a root canal two weeks ago and they got me in within 24 hours of scheduling. He was incredibly professional and caring for everything I had to say. I never had a cavity before, let alone a root canal. My teeth are incredibly sensitive and he paid extreme condition with me being pregnant of what he could and couldn’t do for me. After my appointment, I found out that I needed another root canal after a normal cavity filling did not work at my general dentist. I had an extreme emergency. I couldn’t sleep at night because I was in so much pain. I didn’t know what to do, so I called Dr. Block and he said he would get me in the next day. Despite him being fully booked, he still saw me and performed a root canal. I would highly recommend him to anyone and am so thankful for the work he did. I’m going thru one of the worst seasons of my life outside of these teeth issues, and it’s so comforting to know there are specialists that care about people because they are in need. Thank you, Dr. Block for everything. I’m thanking the Lord this evening for guiding your hands and giving you the ability to help people. I hope you were able to finally have some lunch after your shift and some rest. It is well deserved!

I have always had the biggest fear of dentists. I had a terrible tooth infection, and they were able to get me in as a new client the very next day (right before thanksgiving!) I wish I had the name of the nurse who sat with me, played music, gave me graham crackers, and held my hand throughout the entire experience. So incredibly grateful for these guys.

I had my first big dental procedure here this week, and the assistant for the procedure, Nina, did the absolute most in making me less anxious, reassuring me throughout the procedure, and explaining everything to me without judgement. Her kindness and care made me comfortable and safe.

I waited with a bad tooth until it was throbbing up to my ear. They took me in as a new patient in less than 2 hours. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. At triage, DeeDee was welcoming & understanding. Dr. Harris is top notch - he put me at ease with caring comments, then made sure I had a pain-free extraction. He was so efficient that I didn't even realize when the tooth was out. Detailed care instructions were given and I left feeling much better than I felt going in!

Dr. Miller and his assistant ((her name started with a K, I am terrible at names) that saw me Saturday were absolutely phenomenal in every way. Kindness and projecting a safety and secureness that I have not experienced in 10 or 15 years at a dentist office. Elite Smiles, these two individuals are not replaceable. You can fake alot of things, but true human kindness and decency is not able to be reproduced. He explained every single thing he did in my mouth and also executed the procedure in a timely manner and his assistant matched his care in every single way. I have been coming here for about 3 years now. I have had great experiences with everyone I've seen, however, this past Saturday was an EPIC dentist visit I have only gotten to experience maybe twice in my lifetime. Thanks and every single one of you are AWESOME 👌 I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE. PERIOD At triage, DeeDee was welcoming & understanding. Dr. Harris is top notch - he put me at ease with caring comments, then made sure I had a pain-free extraction. He was so efficient that I didn't even realize when the tooth was out. Detailed care instructions were given and I left feeling much better than I felt going in!

This review is for my cleaning on 7/24/2025 with Andi (the lady from California). Background - due to some things that transpired in my life, I was broke and couldn’t go to the dentist for 8 years. When my situation changed, I went to see Dr. Chad Lasperowski in NoVA and I explained to them why I hadn’t been, and they treated me great. In fact, their practice does the Washington Redskins/Commanders. Anyway, first rate service. This is my 3rd time coming to Elite Smiles. The first time was ok, but the 2nd time I was in and out in like 20 minutes and I assumed that my teeth didn’t have a great deal of buildup. But today, Andi showed me the pictures of my teeth and it’s clear that the lady who did my cleaning on my 2nd visit, who didn’t take pictures and I saw today, rushed me out of there without being thorough. So today, when we started, Andi was doing the things that Dr. Kasperowski did. Put numbing stuff on my gums, explained everything and asked questions…..first rate service. At the end of the cleaning I made my next appointment with Andi and asked for her cell so if she left, I’d follow her. She told me she couldn’t do that as it is illegal so I shared my experience with Lisa both at the counter and via phone call. Bottom line…..KEEP ANDI!! She is THE BEST!!! I don’t want to drive 6 hours back to DC as I did for 2 years but I will. Dr. Hafner and Dr. Alani are exceptional dentists — both are highly knowledgeable and genuinely take the time to listen and provide thoughtful, personalized care.
