Quick Answer

If you are looking for a dentist near La Follette TN after putting off dental care, Elite Smiles can help you restart without assuming the worst. Our Knoxville dental team evaluates your current oral health, identifies any active problems, and develops a practical plan for preventive, restorative, or cosmetic care based on what your mouth needs today.

Dentist Near La Follette TN

Maybe it has been six months since your last dental visit. Maybe it has been several years. People fall out of routine dental care for all kinds of reasons. Work gets busy. Insurance changes. A move disrupts an established routine. Some patients simply avoid the dentist because they expect bad news after being away too long. For patients searching for a dentist near La Follette TN, Elite Smiles starts by finding out what has actually changed.

What Happens If You Haven’t Seen a Dentist in a While?

The first visit establishes where things stand now. Your dentist will evaluate your teeth, gums, existing dental work, and any symptoms you have noticed. X-rays may help identify decay between teeth, root canal needs, or bone changes that cannot be seen directly.

Some patients expect a long list of problems and discover that their mouths have held up well.

Others have areas that need attention.

Either way, an examination replaces uncertainty with specific information.

You May Not Need as Much Treatment as You Think

A long gap between appointments does not automatically mean extensive dental work.

Dentists often find a mixture of healthy areas, conditions that need monitoring, and a smaller number of problems that require treatment.

For example, surface staining does not mean tooth decay. An older filling does not require replacement simply because of its age. Mild sensitivity can come from exposed root surfaces rather than a cavity.

A good evaluation separates those issues rather than grouping everything together.

Gum Health Often Deserves Early Attention

Patients who have missed regular cleanings may develop more plaque and tartar along the gumline.

Plaque remains soft enough to remove at home, but tartar hardens onto the tooth and requires professional cleaning.

When bacteria remain near the gums, inflammation can lead to bleeding, swelling, or tenderness. Gingivitis can often improve when the bacterial buildup is controlled.

More advanced periodontal disease requires closer attention because it can affect the bone and connective tissues supporting the teeth.

Your dentist and hygienist can determine where you fall on that spectrum.

What If You Already Know Something Is Wrong?

You do not need to fix everything before making the appointment.

A broken tooth, loose filling, persistent sensitivity, or missing crown gives the dentist somewhere to start.

The important question is what caused the problem and how much healthy tooth remains.

A small damaged area may need a filling. A weakened tooth may need a crown. Infection inside the tooth may require root canal treatment.

If several teeth need work, your dentist can prioritize the most urgent areas and create a sequence that makes the process manageable.

Dental Anxiety Can Get Worse the Longer You Wait

Avoidance has a way of feeding itself.

A patient worries that the dentist will find a problem, delays the appointment, and then becomes more anxious because more time has passed.

Breaking that cycle starts with information.

You do not need to commit to every possible treatment during the first visit. An examination can simply tell you what is healthy, what needs attention, and what your options are.

That gives you a clearer starting point than trying to judge your oral health based on symptoms alone.

Once You’re Back, Prevention Becomes Easier

After active problems are under control, routine care becomes much simpler.

Regular cleanings help control plaque and tartar. Exams allow the dentist to monitor existing restorations and identify changes earlier.

That history also makes future decisions easier.

Instead of wondering what happened during several years without care, your dentist can compare findings from one visit to the next.

Questions Patients Often Ask After a Long Gap in Care

Will the dentist judge me for not coming in sooner?

The useful question is what your mouth needs now. A productive dental visit focuses on your current oral health and the next appropriate step.

Will I need a deep cleaning because I missed appointments?

Not automatically. The type of cleaning depends on the condition of your gums and supporting tissues, not simply how long it has been since your last visit.

Should I wait until I have dental insurance?

If you have pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or another active concern, delaying evaluation can allow the problem to become more complicated.

What if I need several procedures?

Your dentist can usually prioritize treatment and discuss a phased plan rather than approaching everything as one large project.

I cannot say thank you enough to Dr. Block and his staff. I had to have a root canal two weeks ago and they got me in within 24 hours of scheduling. He was incredibly professional and caring for everything I had to say. I never had a cavity before, let alone a root canal. My teeth are incredibly sensitive and he paid extreme condition with me being pregnant of what he could and couldn’t do for me. After my appointment, I found out that I needed another root canal after a normal cavity filling did not work at my general dentist. I had an extreme emergency. I couldn’t sleep at night because I was in so much pain. I didn’t know what to do, so I called Dr. Block and he said he would get me in the next day. Despite him being fully booked, he still saw me and performed a root canal. I would highly recommend him to anyone and am so thankful for the work he did. I’m going thru one of the worst seasons of my life outside of these teeth issues, and it’s so comforting to know there are specialists that care about people because they are in need. Thank you, Dr. Block for everything. I’m thanking the Lord this evening for guiding your hands and giving you the ability to help people. I hope you were able to finally have some lunch after your shift and some rest. It is well deserved!

Went here Saturday 1-3-2026 for an emergency tooth extraction from a tooth that was making me so sick. All the people here are SO caring and professional I don't know what I would've done without them being open on Saturday, quite literally they saved my life. Best dentist I've ever visited, highly recommend!!!

I have always had the biggest fear of dentists. I had a terrible tooth infection, and they were able to get me in as a new client the very next day (right before thanksgiving!) I wish I had the name of the nurse who sat with me, played music, gave me graham crackers, and held my hand throughout the entire experience. So incredibly grateful for these guys.

I had my first big dental procedure here this week, and the assistant for the procedure, Nina, did the absolute most in making me less anxious, reassuring me throughout the procedure, and explaining everything to me without judgement. Her kindness and care made me comfortable and safe.

I waited with a bad tooth until it was throbbing up to my ear. They took me in as a new patient in less than 2 hours. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. At triage, DeeDee was welcoming & understanding. Dr. Harris is top notch - he put me at ease with caring comments, then made sure I had a pain-free extraction. He was so efficient that I didn't even realize when the tooth was out. Detailed care instructions were given and I left feeling much better than I felt going in!

Dr. Miller and his assistant ((her name started with a K, I am terrible at names) that saw me Saturday were absolutely phenomenal in every way. Kindness and projecting a safety and secureness that I have not experienced in 10 or 15 years at a dentist office. Elite Smiles, these two individuals are not replaceable. You can fake alot of things, but true human kindness and decency is not able to be reproduced. He explained every single thing he did in my mouth and also executed the procedure in a timely manner and his assistant matched his care in every single way. I have been coming here for about 3 years now. I have had great experiences with everyone I've seen, however, this past Saturday was an EPIC dentist visit I have only gotten to experience maybe twice in my lifetime. Thanks and every single one of you are AWESOME 👌 I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE. PERIOD At triage, DeeDee was welcoming & understanding. Dr. Harris is top notch - he put me at ease with caring comments, then made sure I had a pain-free extraction. He was so efficient that I didn't even realize when the tooth was out. This review is for my cleaning on 7/24/2025 with Andi (the lady from California). Background - due to some things that transpired in my life, I was broke and couldn’t go to the dentist for 8 years. When my situation changed, I went to see Dr. Chad Lasperowski in NoVA and I explained to them why I hadn’t been, and they treated me great. In fact, their practice does the Washington Redskins/Commanders. Anyway, first rate service. This is my 3rd time coming to Elite Smiles. The first time was ok, but the 2nd time I was in and out in like 20 minutes and I assumed that my teeth didn’t have a great deal of buildup. But today, Andi showed me the pictures of my teeth and it’s clear that the lady who did my cleaning on my 2nd visit, who didn’t take pictures and I saw today, rushed me out of there without being thorough. So today, when we started, Andi was doing the things that Dr. Kasperowski did. Put numbing stuff on my gums, explained everything and asked questions…..first rate service. At the end of the cleaning I made my next appointment with Andi and asked for her cell so if she left, I’d follow her. She told me she couldn’t do that as it is illegal so I shared my experience with Lisa both at the counter and via phone call. Bottom line…..KEEP ANDI!! She is THE BEST!!! I don’t want to drive 6 hours back to DC as I did for 2 years but I will.
