Nitrous Oxide and IV Sedation Dentistry
We are glad to offer sedation during dental treatment. When a treatment will be painful or cause extreme anxiety, patients can benefit from going under sedation. The 2 types of sedation we offer are nitrous oxide and IV sedation.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is by far the most common sedation choice for dental treatment.
Nitrous oxide brings patients to a pain-free, relaxed state. Most patients can resume their normal activity quickly, because the effects of nitrous oxide dissipate soon after treatment.
How Nitrous Oxide Works:
If you need nitrous oxide sedation during dental treatment, you’ll inhale it through your nose. Our dental staff closely monitors dosage and vital signs, and is able to adjust the dose as needed.
IV Sedation
Fear or anxiety over dental visits and dental surgery can prevent some patients from getting the care they need. Besides helping anxious patients relax, IV sedation helps us address several other concerns more effectively.
IV Sedation Helps Avoid:
- Teeth, gum, and gag reflex sensitivity
 - Physical or cognitive conditions that make dental care unsafe or unmanageable
 - The need to perform multiple or complex procedures in one visit
