BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Elite Smiles Patient Info

Download forms and learn what to expect before your appointment.

It’s always good to be comfortable and at peace when you arrive at the dentist. So you can know what to expect, keep reading. We’ll go through what you’ll experience during your first appointment at Elite Smiles.

Arrival & Forms

When you arrive, you’ll head to the front desk to:

  • Present your insurance card (if applicable), driver’s license, and any other ID that applies
  • Receive paperwork to fill out or …
  • … hand in pre-filled paperwork (download forms below)

For your convenience, please arrive 15 minutes early so you can get settled in and take care of all your paperwork. This will help make your exam more effective!

First Exam & X-rays

Your first exam will consist of several elements that help us to understand your health needs and dental history. You will:

  • Go over your medical history with your dentist
  • Share any concerns, fears, or questions
  • Take initial bitewing or panoramic x-rays
  • Undergo a thorough first exam of teeth, gums, and mouth
  • Discuss your exam results
  • Receive your dentist’s comprehensive treatment recommendations
  • Plan your next appointment on your way out

Knowing the status of your oral health is incredibly important. That’s why you will probably not have your teeth cleaned during your first visit. After we have your x-ray and exam results, we will know how to more effectively and compassionately care for your individual needs.

Just like any doctor, we need to gain knowledge of your health before treating any conditions. This gives you the respect and specific attention your health deserves.

As always, please feel free to call us at (865) 637-5708 with any questions!

PREPARING FOR YOUR NEXT VISIT

Returning Patient Info

How can you keep your teeth and mouth healthy? By visiting Elite Smiles in Knoxville regularly for checkups and teeth cleaning. This does 2 things: keeps your mouth healthy, and saves you money in the long run by helping to avoid costly problems.

Your Regular Dental Cleaning

Your dental hygienist may refer to your 6-month cleaning as “prophylaxis,” or “prophy.” Regular dental hygienist appointments are for long-term maintenance of good oral health.

If you keep your scheduled appointment, you have a much better chance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. And, your teeth will feel clean!

Each teeth cleaning appointment includes a thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums. It may also include an oral cancer screening if you are at risk.

Many patients also receive a fluoride treatment to strengthen and protect their teeth. This is often presented as an option, and it is one we highly recommend.

I’ve been diagnosed with periodontal disease. What’s next for me?

The bad news is that this gum disease can be frustrating and is all-too-common. The good news is that we can treat it!

Patients diagnosed with periodontal disease also come in for regular appointments besides their twice-yearly hygienist appointment. We try to schedule periodontal disease maintenance appointments around 3 months apart. During these visits, patients receive their prescribed scaling and root planing procedure. We often call this a “deep cleaning.” Deep cleaning removes buildup and strips away infected areas from your gums and the roots of your teeth.

Here’s why you should stick to your prescribed periodontal treatment schedule: it can keep you from added expense later on.
